Miami, FL— Today, the members of SEIU Florida expressed their strong support for José Suárez and have endorsed him for City of Miami Commission, District 3 in the upcoming November election.

“José is a tireless advocate and deeply understands the issues facing working families across the state, City of Miami, in District 3 as well as in his Little Havana neighborhood” said Monica Russo, President of SEIU Florida and Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. “Our members and leadership are very pleased to support a candidate who can truly speak for the needs of local residents and businesses, and we’re especially proud to endorse one of our own.”

Suárez serves as Communications Director for 1199SEIU, which represents nurses, technicians, maintenance, food service and other healthcare personnel at facilities such as University of Miami Hospital, as well as dozens of hospitals and over a hundred nursing homes in the region and state.

Suárez has been an outspoken critic of the political corruption and nepotism that have acutely hindered the prosperity and great potential of District 3 as well as the city and has pledged to make local government work first for the people, rather than long-time entrenched special interests or new profiteers. He has campaigned to promote the area’s unique qualities and culture to boost business and employment opportunities, while preserving these very traits against overdevelopment or exploitation.

“José has so much energy embracing all the principles of our union: fairness, justice and economic empowerment for every person willing to work hard,” Russo said. “Our members and Miami’s District 3 are very lucky to have him working on their behalf. He’s already a leader, and will make an outstanding commissioner.”
