SEIU Florida Denounces Governor Scott’s Intention to Sue the Obama Administration Over Medicaid Funds
Miami—SEIU Florida President Monica Russo issued the following statement.
"Governor Scott has presided over the Medicaid Expansion debate for 4 years – taking multiple positions from for Expansion to Against," said Russo whose organization SEIU Florida represents thousands of Registered Nurses and healthcare workers across the state who have vociferously advocated to expand Medicaid to 1.2 million hard working Floridians in the state’s coverage gap.
In Scott's announcement he claims that President Obama is attempting to force the state into Obamacare by cutting off Low Income Pool Funding (LIP). "This is hardly a surprise. He can’t have his LIP cake and eat it too. If the Governor would use the influence of his Office to join the chorus of hospitals and businesses and everyday Floridians who are clamoring for the expansion of Medicaid there would be plenty of resources to the tune of $50 billion to compensate for the loss of the LIP funds" said Russo.
SEIU Florida represents over 55,000 active and retired healthcare professionals, public employees, and property service workers in the state of Florida. SEIU members provide vital public services in Florida’s hospitals, nursing homes, public schools, community colleges, municipal and county governments, malls, and universities. With over 2.1 million members, SEIU is the fastest-growing union in North America.
