Union Highlights the Need for Good Wages In “Vote for Freedom” Platform

MIRAMAR, FL — Energized by the victory of the Fight for $15 movement that pushed Amazon to announce this week that the company will pay its workers at least $15 per hour, members of SEIU Florida, one of the largest unions in the state, rallied with others at events throughout the week to call for a $15 minimum wage as part of their “Vote for Freedom” platform for the 2018 election.

MIAMI, FL -- This Saturday, over 1,500 immigrant youth, families, and allies will gather in Miami to kick-off the one month countdown to this year’s midterm election. United We Dream Action are volunteering with The Win Justice coalition* for the largest single voter mobilization in Florida this election cycle. Bend the Arc and Fight for $15 will also join the action.

The coalition includes Florida based groups Planned Parenthood, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Center for Community Change Action (CCCA), Color of Change, New Florida Majority, Organize Florida, and Florida Immigrant Coalition Votes (FLIC Votes).

SEIU Florida, which represents more than 55,000 active and retired health care professionals, public employees, airport workers, adjunct faculty and property service staff in the state today joined with elected officials to call out Republican nominee for governor Ron DeSantis at events in Miami, Palm Beach, Tampa and Orlando, with the union dubbing him “Healthcare Disaster DeSantis.” SEIU Florida Nurses and healthcare workers also announced details relating to healthcare in the union’s “Vote for Freedom” platform for the 2018 November elections.
