PROGRESSIVE COALITION REACHES MILLIONS OF INFREQUENT VOTERS ACROSS FLORIDA; KNOCKS ON NEARLY 800,000 DOORS

The coalition includes Florida based groups Planned Parenthood, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Center for Community Change Action (CCCA), Color of Change, New Florida Majority, Organize Florida, and Florida Immigrant Coalition Votes (FLIC Votes).

FLORIDA -- Since April, the Win Justice coalition* in Florida has engaged millions of infrequent voters across more than 10 counties through canvass, phone calls, texts, and digital ads.

The coalition has knocked on nearly 800,000 doors, with a plan to exceed over 1.2 million doors by Election Day. Nearly 500,000 doors were knocked before the primary, which led to record breaking voter turnout and the nomination of one of the most progressive candidates for Governor, Andrew Gillum. Canvass operations have been running in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Orange, Osceola, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Alachua, Leon, and Duval since earlier this year. Through online paid digital programs, the coalition has engaged millions Floridians online.

The National Win Justice coalition of SEIU, Planned Parenthood, Color of Change, and Center for Community Change Action joined New Florida Majority, Organize Florida, and Florida Immigrant Coalition Votes in the state to engage infrequent voters in millennial, Gen Z, Black, and Latinx communities.

"We know when our communities vote, we win," said Melissa Morales, Campaign Manager for Florida's Win Justice coalition and Executive Director of SEIU Florida State Council. "It is no secret that when you see a higher turn out in black and latinx communities - and women - we elect more progressives to office. We saw that on the night of our primary election, and we hope to see that again on November 6."

This Saturday, the Win Justice coalition will join United We Dream Action to host the largest volunteer action this year for the 2018 election. Over 1,000 volunteers will come together for the single action in Miami. October 6 marks one month until election day. Since the Spring, the Win Justice coalition has hosted over 400 events statewide - including hosting the first Democratic Gubernatorial debate in South Florida back in June.

Win Justice kicked off in April, but groups on the ground have been organizing locally for the past few years, with a plan in place to continue the work after November. The coalition is encouraging voters to vote for Andrew Gillum, Bill Nelson, Amendment 4 and a progressive ticket down the ballot.

The coalition is running nationally with a key focus in Florida, Nevada, and Michigan. Each state program is working to motivate voters who do not generally vote during non-presidential elections, citing the importance of this midterm election.
