"All communities need access to healthcare coverage, not just a chosen few."

Statement by Monica Russo, President of the SEIU Florida State Council

The following is a statement in response to Governor Ron DeSantis's health care plan announced today.

"Hundreds of thousands of Floridians currently do not have access to quality health care, and the Governor's latest plan does not address their needs. No one should have to choose between paying their rent and going to the doctor.

"This plan does nothing to remedy the reality of so many living without coverage. Through the Governor's proposal to cut $98 million from the state's Medicaid program, it has become clear that there is no plan to provide access to truly affordable healthcare coverage to our most vulnerable communities.

"The Governor’s first step should be discussing his plan and how it could affect communities with healthcare workers. SEIU would be happy to facilitate such conversations.”
