Statement: Florida House Spends Their First Week Back to Work Attacking Immigrants, Following Trump’s ‘Shithole Countries” Comment

"Less than 24 hours after the President referred to Haiti and Africa as “shithole countries”, the Republicans in Florida’s State House followed through on their priority to attack immigrants and their families. By passing the anti-Sanctuary Cities bill, HB9, this unfunded mandate would rip families apart, turn our local police into immigration officers, and make our communities less safe and encourage racial profiling.

“This xenophobic bill isn’t what America is about and it’s certainly not what Florida is about.” - Monica Russo, President of SEIU Florida.
